The Art of Simplicity in an Intimate Gathering

When asked about my approach to floral design and style, the focus has always been to embrace simplicity and the sophisticated beauty that it uncovers naturally. Simplicity can often be confused with plainness, but to achieve true elegance - simplicity is key.

So, for my first brand shoot with Ruby Olivia Photography at The Denizen Co, I wanted to create an intimate setting that embodies the ideals of simplicity fit for the times we are living today. Gatherings are small and the connection to the people you love are precious. An environment that invites openness and comfort encourages a spirit of belonging that allows us to simply be and observe the present moment - a beautiful pastime we no longer take for granted.

A table scape with calming earth hues of florals, candles, and natural linens with bits of nature allow guests to appreciate elements of texture with meaning, like the coastal gray handmade menu papers from Silk and Willow or the sustainable stone frog vessels from Bloomist that are handpicked from streams in Honduras.

Florals are minimal, but are unique in characteristics, like the feathery hairlike petals on the clematis or the long dancing stems of the velvety chocolate cosmos that have an actual aroma of sweet chocolates. The ease of grace of the natural pairing of the delicate Queen Anne’s Lace and clusters of blooming spirea is sensuous, yet compelling.

The art of simplicity reduces complexity, so you can focus and appreciate the things that are important and usually go unnoticed. It’s sometimes more difficult to achieve than something more grand, but when done thoughtfully and with intention, it will leave a lasting impression that is memorable and everlasting for you and your guests.
